In an Chiropractic office, one should expect to see a myriad of conditions. People present to our offices for conditions including but not limited to musculoskeletal dysfunction, headaches, bowel/bladder dysfunction, tinnitus, tendonitis, ear infections, vertigo, numbness/tingling, sleep disturbance/disorders, stress, and a vast array of other conditions. If you were to ask me how many of those conditions I treat, you may be slightly taken back because my answer would be none. I treat none of those conditions. Well than what is it that we/I do? A Chiropractor does nothing more or less than treat the body as a whole, the healing is than done by you. You are the healer, I am not, I find it shocking that people seem to forget this. What makes this wonderful, is that in my office, if you were to ask me what conditions a prospective patient could present with, we would answer any condition that the body can heal. Chiropractors deal with the nervous system, which is essentially the system that our body uses to coordinate and control general bodily functions, when we are under undue stressors may it be physical, chemical, or emotional, this system can be effected.
Surely, a caveat to be mentioned is that though your body can heal, please advise with a medical professional for any emergency conditions, we are good, not that good.. yet :). Most if not all conditions stem from stress in one way or another. As mentioned prior, most common of these are chemical, emotional and physical stress. The interesting thing is that your body cant differentiate between these stressors, meaning you will respond in a similar way to any of these and a symptom can manifest. Essentially that stiff neck or headache of yours could of been caused by a rough workout, stress at work, or that can of diet soda all the same. We are constantly under a barrage of stress, so first and foremost we need to teach you how to manage those stressors and rid them completely. We’ll save that for a follow up post, now we need to focus on what to do once the symptoms appear.
